More about this list
Finding a game in Porto mostly means entering a tournament or contacting a club. The list gathers every event and club where outsiders can, on paper, sit down at a board: the Musas tournaments in Campanhã, the club rooms of the Grupo de Xadrez do Porto, the Maia academy in Pedrouços, the clubs of Leça da Palmeira and the Gaia academy, plus the series they organise.
Casual play is thin. One listing shows a Thursday session of chess with a DJ set at Musa das Virtudes, on Passeio das Virtudes, with the boards open to everyone, and does not say whether it returns. Hardly any other place states whether a visitor may simply turn up, which is why most cards read “not stated by sources” under access. For a tournament, register ahead; for a club, send a message before the first visit.
