Blitz tournaments in the Porto area 10

Blitz around Porto tends to ride along with something bigger. The Leça Chess Open sets aside one day of its week for a blitz tournament, and the Maia festival sends its blitz players onto a boat for a cruise on the Douro, in two groups. At its own premises in Pedrouços the Maia academy also runs a Blitz Cup series through the year. Sport Musas e Benfica plays its garden championship at three minutes plus two seconds and its Fischer Random day at five minutes plus three.

Smaller blitz events are scattered across the metropolitan area. A football club in Recarei started the Torneio dos Ventos, a festival committee in Covelo, in Gondomar, organises the Serras do Porto tournament, and in São João da Madeira a youth team blitz is played at the Torre da Oliva and a shopping centre has held a blitz tournament. The district association has blitz on its calendar as well. Several organisers print “Rápidas” on events this short; they are filed here by their time control. Places can be limited and some events are open only to licensed players, so look at the conditions before travelling.
