Rapid and semi-rapid tournaments 9

Rapid chess, which organisers here often bill as “Semi-Rápidas”, is the everyday tournament format around Porto: a full event fits into one afternoon. The Academia de Xadrez da Maia runs a Rapid Cup at its premises in Pedrouços and a school league whose rounds come round every few weeks. In the city, Sport Musas e Benfica holds Preto no Branco, a yearly Swiss for licensed players at ten minutes plus five seconds, and hosts rounds of the Xadrez e Amizade circuit.

Further out, a football club in Recarei holds the Torneio das Caravelas, Leça da Palmeira has an open named after São Miguel Arcanjo, Rio Tinto has had a parish open with separate amateur and federated sections, and São João da Madeira hosts an international rapid open at the Torre da Oliva. The district rapid championships belong here too. Time controls vary between events, so check the notice for the exact minutes and increment.
